Sport Psychologist

Dr. Erica Force is a licensed psychologist specializing in sport psychology. She is nationally qualified as a Certified Mental Performance Consultant with the Association for Applied Sport Psychology and is a registered Sport Psychologist with the United States Olympic Committee. 

Dr. Force brings a broad background of experience and knowledge in working with athletes at all levels. She earned her doctoral degree in counseling psychology at the University of North Texas, with a clinical internship in the U.S. Air Force and four years as an active duty military psychologist. Focusing on clinical and operational psychology, Dr. Force provided psychological support and performance enhancement training for combat operators. She also assisted with psychological assessment and selection of members for the U.S. Air Force Special Operations Command.

Dr. Force is also certified in Animal-Assisted Therapy, and developed the first Animal-Assisted Therapy program within the military treatment facility at Whiteman Air Force Base. This empirically based program was integrated into clinical services to aid in the treatment of military members dealing with post-traumatic stress disorder and other mental health concerns.

Upon completion of her military service, Dr. Force did a postdoctoral fellowship in pediatric psychology at Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children followed by four years in orthopedic sports medicine with a focus on adolescent athletes and sport-related injury. She is a licensed psychologist in the District of Columbia, Virginia, Maryland, Texas, Florida, and Colorado. 

Dr. Force specializes in working with adolescent, collegiate, professional and elite athletes. She currently serves as Associate Director of CAPS – Athletics/Head of Athletic Counseling Services at Georgetown University. In her private practice she is dedicated to providing counseling services to individual athletes and teams in the community. She has served as a team sport psychologist for teams such as the Dallas Wings of the WNBA, and was recently an adjunct faculty member at the University of North Texas and Southern Methodist University. 

As a lifelong athlete, Dr. Force’s sport background includes equestrian show jumping and competitive dog sports.
